Families Like Ours

A supportive online community for caregivers and parents of transgender kids and nonbinary youth.

Parenting transkids in a transphobic world is really hard.

You don’t have to do it alone.

What You’ll Learn

This private parenting group is intended for caregivers of transgender, nonbinary, and other gender non-traditional youth (under 18).

We are enthusiastic supporters of one another and our gender diverse kids living across the United States and in Europe.

We are passionately committed to our kids and each others well-being.

Weekly Video Calls

We meet once per week on a Zoom call, check in about challenges and successes, share support, offer empathy, and encouragement because transgender kids deserve well-resourced parents.

Access the Resource Library

I’ve collected a wealth of materials for parents of transgender and nonbinary youth to reflect on their own gender experience, unlearn transphobia and homophobia, and cultivate a safe and supportive environment for the LGBTQ+ youth in their lives.

Because transgender kids deserve well-informed parents.

Optional Office Hours

Sometimes tricky things come up between calls. These office hours are designed for quick 1:1 chats with your facilitator when you need a brief private consultation.

Because families of trans youth deserve thoughtful, informed care.

Weekly Action Steps

Each week you will receive an email with resources to deepen your personal gender journey and nourish your individual wellbeing to help you better support your child.

Because transgender kids deserve understanding from their caregivers.

Group Discord & Signal Chats

Parenting transgender children can be an exceptionally lonely experience.

Our discord and signal chat communities are designed to keep you connected to others walking a similar path outside of the group calls.

Because all parents deserve community.

Meet your Coach

Dr. Gina Senarighi, Ph.D. CPC

Dr. Gina Senarighi has been a practicing mental health therapist for over 20 years specializing in working with transgender and queer populations. She has also been an unwavering advocate for transgender equity and was recognized as the State Advocate of the Year by the Wisconsin LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce in 2024.

Her direct work with trans youth began in 2007, when she became the first full-time Camp Director at Camp Ten Trees (CTT), a summer camp based in Seattle for LGBTQ+ youth. CTT was one of the very first summer camps that allowed youth to self-select their gendered cabin groups and included a cabin area called “Genderlandia: Where gender roams free” designed for transgender, nonbinary and gender fluid/queer/and questioning youth.

As a community educator, college professor, and therapist she developed multiple workshops and guidebooks to help new allies of the transgender community gain accurate information and tools to support their gender diverse friends and family.

Since then she has been a fierce advocate for transgender youth in schools in Oregon, and Wisconsin, partnering with multiple statewide programs for parent education and support. She has testified multiple times in her state legislature on behalf of transgender healthcare access and has raised over a quarter of a million dollars for LGBTQ+ causes.

Her immediate family of four includes four nonbinary and transgender individuals- so she knows first hand the challenges that arise parenting transgender and nonbinary kids in the current U.S. political climate.

When she’s not working with other parents of trans youth, she runs all of the operations for Team Transpainter with her spouse, Rae Senarighi.

Before you attend please be aware that this group is largely home for cisgender parents of transkids who have varying and sometimes limited information on the transgender and queer experience. We welcome ANY question in our space, and that can sometimes be challenging to hold space for among those of us who have been targeted by homophobia and transphobia. If that could be you, consider signing up for private parent coaching instead.

  • We ask all participants to get consent from others before offering advice or suggestions.

And, because we live in an era of highly persuasive misinformation about transgender youth, resources will be vetted before sharing on the platforms intended for our caregiver community .
